The Flats Family

A few months ago, Moda came out with Flats by Angela Yosten. I immediately wanted to make the dolls! Well, I finally  got around to doing so.

Without further adieu, meet Devin, Addy, Pepper, and Dr. Seuss Flat!

THis was the first time I had attempted to embroider faces...didn't turn out perfect, but not terrible either!

The clothes attach via velcro.

How they look dressed!

This project was so much fun! I also have the pattern for the Flats House but I am not sure when I will get around to making that! Too many projects and not enough time! I hope that someday Addy (the real one :) ) will enjoy playing with these as much as I enjoyed making them.

Ironing Board Makeover

Bonnie over at Cotton Way declared October Ironing Board Makeover Month and that was just the motivation I needed to not only make a new ironing board cover but to start this blog that I have been thinking about starting for months!

As you can see by this before picture, I was in desperate need of a new cover for my ironing board!

I started by looking through my stack of scraps from previous projects and came up with this: a strip of pieced backing from a quilt! Perfect.

Then I found some left over backing fabric from another quilt that matched.

The fabric is Hometown from Sweetwater for Moda from a few years ago. I used it to make some quilts and pillows for our guest room makeover (which is still not completed!).

I started by sewing the pieced strip between two strips of a leftover jelly roll to give it a bit of pop.

Next I sewed two pieces of the leftover backing to each side of the pieced part.

Then I used the old ironing board cover as a template and cut out the pattern. I then repeated the process with cotton batting and muslin for the backing.

I sandwiched the three layers and used bias tape for the binding.

After I got the binding on, I threaded a strip of 1/8" elastic through the binding and tied it up after putting the cover on the ironing board.

And here's the finished product! Huge improvement!

And another close up....

Thanks for the inspiration, Bonnie! Now to iron a few shirts for my boys with my new cover :)...
